What Size Air Conditioner Do You Need in Luxembourg?
Picking a unit by room size alone is how people end up with air conditioning that cools badly and costs too much to run. Glazing, orientation, insulation and what happens in the room matter just as much as square metres.
Rough Starting Point
As a first approximation for a normally insulated Luxembourg apartment, a 2.5 kW unit suits a bedroom of roughly 15–20 m², 3.5 kW a living room of 25–35 m², and 5 kW an open-plan space of 40–50 m². Treat that as a starting point for the survey, not a specification. Two rooms of identical size can need different capacities.

Why Oversizing Is a Real Problem
An oversized unit reaches the set temperature quickly, then stops. Short cycles mean poor dehumidification, so the room feels cold and clammy rather than comfortable, the temperature swings, and the compressor wears faster. A correctly sized inverter unit runs longer at low output — quieter, more stable and cheaper per hour.
Single Split or Multi-Split
One room, one unit: a single split is simpler, cheaper and more efficient. Several rooms: a multi-split shares one outdoor unit, which matters when the façade, the balcony or the syndic limits how many outdoor units may be installed. The trade-off is that all indoor units then depend on a single outdoor unit. We size the whole set together instead of adding capacities blindly.
