What Hard Water Actually Costs You
Scale reduces the efficiency of every appliance that heats water — the boiler, the water heater, the dishwasher, the washing machine. It narrows pipework over years, damages tap cartridges and shower seals, and makes cleaning a permanent chore. The cost is rarely a dramatic failure. It is a slow rise in energy use and a steady stream of small replacements.
Installation Done Properly
A softener needs the right position on the incoming supply, a bypass so the house keeps water during servicing, a drain connection for regeneration, and a power point. Drinking-water and outside taps are considered during design so you are not softening the garden hose. We size the unit for household consumption and local hardness, then set the regeneration cycle accordingly — a badly configured softener either wastes salt or stops softening halfway through the week.
Servicing and Salt
Routine care is simple: keep the salt topped up, check the brine tank does not bridge into a hard crust, and have the resin and valve inspected periodically. We service existing units, including ones we did not install, and can advise when a unit is old enough that repair no longer pays.
Do You Really Need One?
Not every home does. If your consumption is low and your appliances are new, targeted descaling can be enough. We will say so. A softener is worth it when several water-heating appliances are affected and the household uses enough water for the unit to regenerate sensibly.
